The CNS or the central nervous system of the body is considered to be the brain. The skull acts as the brain protector and all the sensory apparatus are very close to the brain. These senses would include taste, vision, smell, touch and hearing. Two important elements for smooth functionality of the brain would be composition and relaxation.
The most vital part in a human’s brain is “memory”. When you recall the information that you have heard, learnt or stored, you tend to use your memory. There are two categories, in which people would classify, on the basis of their memory namely,
- People with Eidetic memory, which is popularly known as photographic memory, where in memories, are stored in a kind of pictorial design.
- Other types of people depend on Mnemonic devices and usually tend to have fuzzy memories.
If you consider yourself as not being in any of the two categories mentioned above, or you feel your memory power is weak then you must be relaxed, as there are many ways to improve your memory power.
The simplest way to do so is by trying to engage your mind as much as you can, as higher the activity level of the brain, more sharp would be the memory power. Among the several ways to improve your memory power, the use of exercise can be most effective, if followed regularly. By exercising you are ensuring that the brain cells are constantly developing connections leading to better functionality. You should try to get involved into activities that could be mentally challenging, for instance playing games such as puzzles, crossword, Sudoku, chess and many more.
It is essential that you hold a positive attitude towards your strategy and effort on improvement. You must not underestimate yourself. You must hold a convincing attitude and believe that your memory would get better.
One major obstruction for memory is the presence of stress in your life. Stress would make it difficult for you to store information and then recall it correctly. Prolonged stress could lead to further health and mental problems such as depression or amnesia. A depressed person’s memory is weaker compared to a non depressed person because of a particular hormone that is released in depressed patients. You could opt for activities such as massage, spa and yoga that would not only relax your mind but relax your body overall.
Concentration is the key to improve your memory power. Inattentive people usually tend to forget easily and recall of information is poor in them. Try to avoid multi tasking as this could create confusion and add to the problem further. What ever new information you get to know of, try connecting it with one or all of your sense and relate to it in such a way, that next time when someone asks you a question you recall it well. Some people could relate to the information with the help of colors and pictures. This is also good, as far as it’s doable. You could even try recording the new information and listening to it from time to time.
With all these ways to improve your memory power listed above, if you still can’t see any significant change, then may be you are not trying hard enough or you have still not clearly understood what needs to be done. In such a case, you could catch hold of some great books available online that would help you solve your problem.
