<li><strong>Short term memory:</strong> That would be categorized as our      memory’s capacity to store information for a short span of time.</li>
<li><strong>Long term memory:</strong> That would be categorized as our      memory’s capacity to store information for a long duration.</li>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Memory retention takes place after going through some stages of formation.</p>
<ul>
<li>The first stage is known as “acquisition”. In this stage the “neurons” enter information into the brain, with the help of its pathways. Information is more appropriately encoded, when there is a presence of good concentration. So, if you are thinking how to improve memory power, remember that concentration is a must. If there is poor concentration, the information goes away.</li>
<li>“Consolidation” being the second stage, helps to store new information, conditioned to the fact that there was good concentration in the first stage.
